Lanzarote, the Canary Islands - Club La Santa

We just got back from our vacation in the Canary Islands. We went to a place called Club La Santa on the island of Lanzarote (http://www.clublasanta.com). It was such a great holiday! The kids had fun swimming and exploring the island, Dag got to bike and I got to take some aerobics and yoga classes. Dag had some pretty amazing rides and got to see a lot of the island by bike and some really phenominal views! And I really enjoyed my classes because they were all outside and you can see the ocean from each class. SO NICE! And of course we enjoyed the sunshine. It was gorgeous!

Our days were pretty packed. Riis and I went on a camel ride together. Dag took the boys lizard hunting and to the ocean to find shrimp. And we were poolside at least once a day. We also got to do different sports with the kids. Their favorites were tennis, basketball and soccer. At night Dag and I took out two of Club La Santa's baby joggers and we walked the track until the boys fell asleep and then we were able to have the night out. We played tennis one night, we got to see a few shows and we walked into the town La Santa and had a fantastic dinner at a little local restaurant called Amendoa. On our last day, we rented a car and drove around the island. We got some pretty amazing views from the higher elevations.

We feel very fortunate to have been able to take this trip and are looking forward to next winter when we go again!

Barcelona March 2009

We went to Barcelona for a 3 day weekend (March 7-10, 2009) - we had so much fun! We stayed at a hotel on the ocean, AB Skipper. Of course, the hotel was a huge hit - there were 2 outdoor heated pools and a small hot tub on the roof. We swam in the hot tub twice a day because it was much too cold to swim in the pool. BURR! The kids were quite happy.

We walked along the ocean to the Aquarium on Saturday night and the kids really enjoyed themselves. It wasn't very exciting for us though - a bit on the boring side, but we were happy that the kids were having fun.

On Sunday, we walked around the city and had paella a restaurant on the waterfront. And on Monday, we took a bus tour on one of the city's open-top buses. Riis was so excited. We got to see the WHOLE city. Dag managed Beck for the first part of the bus tour which was, in his words, "hairy". Beck kept trying to jump off of the bus (see photo below). Dag escaped to work and I took the kids for the rest of the day and finished the bus tour. It was fine as soon as Beck fell asleep :). Riis and I really enjoyed ourselves.

Our favorite stop on the tour was Sagrada Familia - Gaudi's magnificent church. It was unbelievable!

But our favorite travel experience so far was on this trip when we were experiencing some major turbulence and Riis was laughing his little butt off saying "We're going to crash in the water!!" and I was sitting next to him laughing hysterically at him. The people sitting around us thought I was a lunatic. :)

I tried to turn this frog into a prince. He just stared at me.
